Every day, it’s the same old thing....work. Under paid, under appreciated, over worked and over looked. Maybe it’s not as bad as you think, and if it is, then it’s time to re-evaluate things. Yes, it is possible to have joy at work. This session is not for the chronically miserable or those suffering from a case of terminal bad attitudes.

Vara Allen-Jones, M.Ed., L.P.C., Assistant Vice Provost for Student Success, University of Alaska Anchorage. Vara has 14 years of experience in higher education counseling, teaching, training and consulting. She has a special talent for working with multi-cultural and diverse populations. For many years she has put on a special presentation on "Humor in the Workplace" during UAA Staff Day.

Kathryn Berntsen is a Consultant and Trainer in Human Resource Services with the University of Alaska Anchorage. She passionately believes that employees are our greatest capital and values training and learning as a priority in her career. After retiring with the U. S. Army Reserve in January 2000 and 22 years with the federal government in personnel management, Kathi came to UAA for new experiences and challenges. She loves Alaska and finds it is certainly a land of many opportunities!

MICHAEL T. TURNER, M.S., L.P.C., Professor of Counseling. Professor Turner has been with Anchorage Community College and University of Alaska Anchorage for 31 years. He is the co-creator of the UAA Campus Response Team Protocol and is a team member.

JEANNE BUSSEY
, M.A., L.M.F.T. - Ms. Bussey received her Master’s degree in Counseling at Michigan State University. Ms. Bussey’s clinical experience includes providing individual, family and group therapy as well as substance abuse assessments. At Human Affairs of Alaska EAP (now Magellan), she was an EAP clinician from 1987-1993. In 1993, she moved into the positions of Quality Manager/Supervisor Consultant. As Quality Manager, she implemented and assured compliance with legal and regulatory requirements for delivery of behavioral health services. In 1999, Ms. Bussey became an Account Executive/Supervisor Consultant. As an Account Executive, she facilitates meeting the EAP and managed care needs of customers. As a Supervisor Consultant, she presents on various mental health/wellness topics and provides training to managers and supervisors on basic management skills. Ms. Bussey is available for strategic consultations with supervisors concerned about the mental health, performance, and conduct of employees.

Has presented over 50 classes for community education programs, BOCES (education services), universities and colleges. Linda has been featured on several radio and television shows. Joel Kondas, has been involved with computers for 12 years. For the last year and a half, he has been the assistant network administrator at Mat-Su College. He was involved with the college's plan to change the e-mail server from PINE to Outlook to help improve communication and provide time management tools to faculty and staff. Joel has done several in-house training sessions on Outlook and feels that the software program has great potential for those who choose to use it a little or a lot.

   Amy provides ongoing employee education on a group and individual basis for the University of Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, Valley Hospital and the Anchorage School District.
