This resource highlights a few of the region-specific scholarships Alaska students are offered by local organizations, community groups, and by the University of Alaska.
University of Alaska Scholars ProgramThe UA Scholars Award is a four-year scholarship offered to Alaskan high school students in the top 10% of their graduating class as determined by qualifying high schools. Determination is based on class standing at the end of the junior year. Contact the UA Scholars Program. Applications and details are available online or from the financial aid office. University of Alaska Anchorage ScholarshipsThe University of Alaska Anchorage Office of Student Financial Aid posts scholarship applications online on their web page. If you are admitted to a degree program at Mat-Su College and meet any additional requirements of a particular scholarship, you are eligible to apply. Most of the applications become available in mid-January and are due by March. Other applications are posted periodically as they become available. Visit the UAA Scholarships website to access current listings. Mat-Su College ScholarshipsMat-Su College offers the Snodgrass Scholarship through the UA Foundation Office to part-time or full-time continuing students admitted to AAS degrees. Awards range from $500 to $2000. The application deadline is August 1, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.
Guy A. Woodings ScholarshipApplicants for this UA Foundation scholarship must be majoring in Natural Resource Management and be one of the following in order of preference:
Applicants must have been enrolled for at least 2 years pursuing a 4-year degree with preference given to a student having an emphasis on Planning and Land Use within the field of Natural Resource Management. Applicants must submit an essay discussing how they envision the growth and development of the state over the next five years and what part they envision themselves playing in that growth and development. Go to http://www.alaska.edu/foundation/scholarships/ for scholarship qualifications and application process. Deadline is February 15 of each year. Mike Ardaw Scholarship - minimum award $1,000Applicants for this UA Foundation scholarship must be full-time students and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preference will be given to students studying the Sciences, Education or Engineering. Preference will be given to students who have been Alaska residents for at least one year and are from the Nancy Lake area (Palmer, Wasilla, Big Lake) and share Mike Ardaw’s love of country. Students should visit the UA Foundation website for additional scholarship opportunities offered by the UA Foundation.
