Three excellent starting points for locating case studies are PsychInfo, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, and Psychology Journals. All three databases are available from any computer on campus or from your home.
Under Journal Databases by Subject on the library's home page , click on Psychology under the"best databases for information on..." section. The databases will be in the "best subject specific databases" section of the page that displays. You may also click on the links within this guide to go directly to each database.
PsychInfo contains over 1.5 million records from around 10,000 sources from as far back as 1887. It is maintained by the American Psychological Association.
To locate case studies:
- Use “study” as a “Content Type” search.
- Set “Document type phrase” to “Peer Reviewed Article”
- Check the box for “Full text” if you wish to limit your search results only to the studies that you can read from within this database. This option will dramatically reduce the results of your search. Do not go to step 4 if you choose this option.
- Check the box for "Subscriptions held by my library" if you want to limit your results to items that you can obtain from the UAA Consortium Library. This will also dramatically reduce your search results. Do not do step 3 if you choose this option.
- Do not check both "Full text" and "Subscriptions held by my library" at the same time. It's an easy mistake to make, but one that will limit your search results to studies that are available to be read within the database that are also available from Anchorage.
Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection contains full text information from about 550 sources, almost all of which are peer reviewed. Some of the sources in this database are available back to 1965. All of the titles in this database are also contained in PsychInfo, so it is a good place to look for studies that are not actually contained in that database.
To locate case studies:
-
Use the “Advanced Search”.
- Check the box for “Full-Text”
- Check the box for "Peer Reviewed"
- Select "Case Study" from the "Document Type" menu.
Psychology Journals contains information from over 400 psychology-related publications from as far back as 1987.
To locate case studies:
- Use “Studies” as a "Subject" search
- Check the box for “Full text” if you wish to limit your results only to those studies that can be read from within this database.
- Check the box for “Scholarly Journals, Including Peer Reviewed”. Please note that not all of the journals in this category are actually peer reviewed. You will need to search for that journal title in one of the other two databases to make sure.
If you find a case study for which the full text is not available in the database you are currently searching, try the Full-text Finder.
