Number 7
December 10, 2001

Thank you to everyone who helped in the Palmer Colony Christmas Parade of Lights on Saturday evening. It was quite cold, but that certainly didn’t stop people from coming out for the festivities.

Two new faculty searches are now underway. One is for a tenured-track position in Human Services (HUMS) and the other is for a term position in Education (ED)/Early Childhood Development (ECD). The respective committees are conducting accelerated searches in order to have the faculty on board for the start of the spring 2002 semester.

Quilt in A&R - You may have noticed a quilt hanging behind Robin’s desk in the Admissions and Records office. The quilt was donated to the college by several of the staff at MSC. The group included Bette Belanger, Kim Bloomstrom, Connie Cannon, Jo Didiano, Korry Dunham, Gini Geary, Sandy Gravley, Betsy Korzeniewski, Marjorie Payton-Hewlett, Judy Stahancyk and Bonnie Wendt. Each contributed one or more blocks to the project. Stop by and take a look.

The annual Christmas pot luck and gift exchange will be held on Wednesday, December 19, beginning at noon in FSM 204/206. We traditionally hold this celebration on the same day that grades are to be turned in, thus making it easier for our adjunct faculty to attend. Family members are also invited. Please bring a dish to share, and if you wish to take part in the gift exchange, bring a wrapped gift (not to exceed $15). Bring one for each person in your family who wants to participate.

Campus will close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 21 and will remain closed until Wednesday morning, January 2, at 8:00 a.m. That leaves only three days of walk in registration before classes begin on Monday, January 7, 2002.

Register early! If you are planning to sign up for spring semester classes we encourage you to do so before Dec. 21. However, you will be able to register during the break by using UA’s web registration. It is very easy to do;

just follow the instructions at: www.matsu.alaska.edu/AdmnAdvis/registration_info.htm

If you are not registered for a class this fall semester, you will need to have your password reset. Just complete the Wolfline Registration Access form, which can be printed from the MSC Web site. Fax it to 745-9747 or mail to the MSC Admissions and Records office. When our staff return to work on January 2 the forms will be processed. You will then be able to register online on January 3 . It’s that easy! You can help us out by encouraging your friends and family members to register early.

A valuable class - Do you know of a high school student who may be looking for something do to over the holiday break? If so, encourage them to sign up for the Survival Skills for College Students class taught by Elizabeth Fallon on January 2, 3 and 4. This is a great opportunity to learn some valuable study skills for high school or college.
