Use the following information to help identify your current financial aid status and the steps you need to take to secure financial aid.

Identify your status

Identify from the following three options which best represents your current situation:

If you are a new student:

File your FAFSA and have it sent to 011462

Have a plan to pay (fall deadline is September 10, 2007) in place

If you are a continuing student who:

  • Attended in the Spring 2007 semester and received financial aid; AND
  • Successfully completed all of the courses in which you were enrolled as of the Add/Drop deadline,
  • Your grant, loan, and/or scholarship funding may be applied to your student account at Mat-Su as early as August 20, 2007. Check UA Online under Student Records - Account Summary to confirm when it appears. If you are not sure that you have received all of the aid that you have coming, check under Financial Aid – UAA – My Award Information - Award by Aid Year.

If you are a continuing student who:

  • Attended in the Spring 2007 semester and received financial aid; BUT
  • Either withdrew from courses, received a failing grade, or an incomplete - please check UA Online under Financial Aid – UAA – My Eligibility, then Academic Progress to see if you will need to file an Appeal for Reinstatement of Financial Aid Eligibility. If you are required to do so, please be prepared to come to see an Academic Advisor as a walk-in student as soon as possible beginning August 1, 2007.
  • Follow this link to the Appeal for Reinstatement of Financial Aid Eligibility.
  • Bring your detailed letter of explanation, neatly typed, explaining why you were unable to successfully complete your course load and specifically stating that you want your eligibility reinstated for Fall 2007 when you visit the Advisor.

FAQs

  • When will my Pell/SEOG/Alaska Advantage grant money be available?
Those grants begin to pay on August 20, 2007.
  • When will my loans come in?
Loans for continuing or returning students can pay to the student’s account as early as August 20, 2007.
  • How will I get my money?
All financial aid is paid directly to the College. We then satisfy any balance due on your student account for tuition and fees. The remaining balance is then put into a check and mailed to the address on record for the student. Checks may NOT be picked up at the College.
  • I got a bill in the mail that shows I owe money! What do I do?
The payment deadline is September 10, 2007. Your payment is not expected until that day. Financial aid for Fall 2007 will begin to be posted to student accounts on August 20, 2007. Until then, everybody gets a bill; remember each student is responsible for making sure that their account balances are paid by the deadline for payment, whether they are receiving financial aid or have an agency paying their bills.

Have you filed your FAFSA yet?

Students just beginning the quest for student financial aid should be aware that they cannot expect financial aid for the payment deadline on September 10.

You can set up a payment plan through Tuition Management Services (TMS) or pay privately and re-pay yourself when your financial aid is processed in the order it was received. Contact the MSC Bookstore for more TMS information - JKB 109 or 745-9739 (option 5).

Check the status of your financial aid

UA Online is the resource – you can find out if your FAFSA has been processed, what type and how much financial aid for which you are eligible. Click here to find out how to Accept your Student Loans.

First Time Student Loan Borrowers

The first time you accept a student loan that has been offered to you, you will need to follow through with the following two steps: applying with a Lender by signing a Master Promissory Note AND Entrance Loan Counseling. You may do both of these online. To sign the MPN electronically, be sure to have your FAFSA PIN and two personal references (you will need their names, addresses and phone numbers). Click here to go to the Lender List.

If you have selected a Lender and Accepted your loans

Your Loan Status Information will usually show on ELMNet within a few days.

If you received funds for Spring, click "view" for Fall term loan information after logging into UA Online.

Look Up and Track Your Loan

Use ElmNet to review all your loan information on the Web. You can monitor your loan status from the time you submit it until the day your loan is fully paid.

ElmNet is the same system your school used to process and track your loans. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the website elmresources.com.
  2. Click on "Student Loan Borrowers".
  3. Click on "Check My Loans on ELMNet".

Enter your ID and password. If this is the first time you’ve used ELMNet, you will need to create and ID and password.

You will see all your loans, including your Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford loans and, in most cases, your alternative loans. Parent Plus loans are also available for viewing but can only be accessed by the parent borrower who must create an ID and password.

Note: Email financial.aid@matsu.alaska.edu to let us know which lender you chose.
