Blackboard is an Internet-based system which facilitates communication between students and instructors by providing Internet-based access to course materials, class discussions, and quizzes and by allowing instructors to create examinations and discussion boards for many different courses. It is often used to teach distance education courses. If you are enrolled in a web-based course, Blackboard is probably the forum in which you will do most of your course work.

Where do I get my Blackboard username and password?

If you are taking a distance education course, you will receive a packet in the mail which contains this information. If you are a face-to-face student, your username and password are the same as your MSC/UAA email username and password. All students registered for courses at MSC/UAA have an email address. If you do not know your email address, or if you have any problems logging in, you may call the ITS Call Center (at UAA) 907-786-4646 or 1-877-633-3888 for assistance.

Where is my Blackboard course located? How do I connect to it?

Blackboard uses your username and password, which are assigned to you by UAA IT Services. Your username is the first part of your MSC/UAA email address, i.e. psrrd12. To connect, go to the Blackboard Login.

Log in to your Blackboard shell and follow the steps outlined below. In the case below I have clicked on a organization as I do not have any courses available. However, the instructions are the same for both. Please call 907-786-4646 or 1-877-633-3888 if you have questions or need assistance.

Connecting to Blackboard

(Internet Explorer is recommended)

1. Go to the main Matanuska-Susitna College web site http://www.matsu.alaska.edu.
2. Select the "Blackboard" link from the navigation box. Blackboard will open and prompt you for your user name and password.
3. Enter your username. Usernames are generated for students registered for at least 1 credit. Allow 2 business days after registration for account availability. (Mat-Su students will usually have a user name beginning with “ps”.)
4. Enter your password. The initial password is set to your UAA ID number. Your Blackboard password is the same as your UAA student email password.
5. You are now at your main Blackboard screen and will see all MSC and UAA courses that you are taking.
6. Select your course by clicking on it to link to class information. If a course is not showing here it may indicate that the instructor of your course may not be using the Blackboard shell or has not yet enabled the course.
